Feature Plant: Fiddle Leaf Figs

Feature Plant: Fiddle Leaf Figs

Just like fashion, plants tend to follow the trends and undeniably, Fiddle Leaf Figs are having their moment in the sun (pun intended!)

Here’s the low down:
Common name: Fiddle leaf fig
Botanic name: Ficus lyrata

Fiddle leaf figs are a tropical plant from Africa which can grow to an incredible 30 metres tall. They have glossy leaves with small waves and get their name because of the shape of the leaf- just like a fiddle.

They can be grown outside but don’t like the cold. Fiddle lead figs make an ideal indoor plant because they are generally low- maintenance and they look great in a feature pot. Well cared for, they can reach ceiling height!

Fiddle leaf figs like light so it’s best to keep them in a well lit environment- although avoid direct sunlight as this can cause the leaves to suffer.

Watering should be done sparingly to avoid lower leaves dropping from excess moisture.
